The Elect of God

Romans 8:33

“Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.”

“There is the special, direct, and effectual call of the Spirit, in the elect of God, without which all other calling is in vain.  The Spirit effectually works in the soul with an inward, supernatural, secret power. There is an energy put forth with the call, which . . .
  awakens the conscience,
  breaks the heart,
  convinces the judgment,
opens the eye of the soul, and
pours a new and an alarming sound
    upon the hitherto deaf ear.

Mark the blessed effects . . .
the scales fell from the eyes,
the veil is torn from the mind,
the deep fountains of evil in the heart are broken up.” ~Octavius Winslow

“Christ desires to have all His elect branches, which are scattered up and down in the world—to be with Him. "Father, I desire those You have given Me to be with Me where I am." John 17:24. The elect will never be happy—until they are transplanted to the heavenly garden. In heaven, there will be no bramble to tear the vine branches; none of the red dragon's brood. Then all the branches will be sweetly united in love.
Then they shall grow in the sunshine of God's countenance. In this life, the elect branches partake of God's grace; hereafter, they shall partake of His glory!” ~Thomas Watson

" ‘And they shall be Mine, says the Lord Almighty, in that day when I make up My jewels’(Mal. 3:17). What is meant by ‘When I make up My jewels’? Is it not when the complete number of His redeemed are regenerated and polished? Is it not when He shall descend from Heaven with a shout, resurrect the sleeping saints and transform the living ones and rapture them together, so that we shall ‘ever be with the Lord’ (1 Thess. 4:16, 17): "make up" (Mal. 3:17), "caught up" (1 Thess. 4:17)!

One once wrote: ‘Earthly jewels sometimes get separated from their owner, Christ's jewels never: 'For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life . . . nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord' (Romans 8:38, 39). Earthly jewels are sometimes lost—Christ's jewels never: 'I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand' (John 10:28). Earthly jewels are sometimes stolen—Christ's jewels never: 'in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal' (Matt. 6:20)." ~A.W. Pink

On that great day of disclosures God will avenge His own elect. All the calumnies and aspersions heaped on their character will be wiped away. In presence of devils, and angels, and men, the approving sentence will go forth from the lips of the Omniscient One, ‘Enter into the joy of your Lord!’" ~John MacDuff

"All God’s elect, having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, shall
be called from death to life by the irresistible power and almighty
grace of God the Holy Spirit (Gal. 3:13-14; Psa. 65:4; 110:3).
Repentance toward God, faith in Christ, and eternal life are the
results of the Spirit's call. Theses are things effectually wrought
in God’s elect (not offered to them) by his almighty grace.
There is specific day appointed by God in which each of
his elect will be called to life and faith in Christ by the gospel
(Psa. 110:3; Ezek. 16:68). God will see to it that the sinner whom
he has chosen will be in the place he has ordained, with his heart
thoroughly prepared to receive the gospel, at the appointed time.
And he will send his Word to that sinner in the irresistible power
and grace of the Holy Spirit. In that day, God says, regarding
every chosen, redeemed sinner, ‘They shall be my people.’” ~Don Fortner

“Calvin says: ‘We shall never be convinced as we ought to be, that our salvation flows from the fountain of God's free mercy, until we are acquainted with his eternal election, which illustrates the grace of God by this comparison, that he adopts not all promiscuously to salvation, but gives to some what he refuses to others. Ignorance of this principle evidently detracts from the divine glory, and diminishes real humility.’ Beveridge says: ‘If God has elected us, it is in vain for men or devils to accuse us; if he is our friend, it is in vain for any one to be our foe.’ Charnock says: ‘Conformity to God in purity is the fruit of electing love. He has chosen us that we should be holy. Eph. 1:4. The goodness of the fruit evidences the nature of the root; this is the seal that assures us the patent is the authentic grant of the prince.’ John Newton says: ‘Admitting the total depravity of human nature, how can we account for the conversion of a soul to God, unless we likewise admit an election of grace? The work must begin somewhere. Either the sinner first seeks the Lord, or the Lord first seeks the sinner. The former is impossible, if by nature we are dead in trespasses and sins. Let me appeal to yourself. I think you know yourself too well to say that you either sought or loved the Lord first.’ Flavel says: ‘God has chosen some to salvation and passed by others.’ ‘God's choice was not on foreseen works, but merely of his grace, and good pleasure of his will.’ Leighton says: ‘The foreknowledge of God is no other than that eternal love of God, or decree of election, by which some are appointed unto life, and being foreknown or elected to that end, are predestinate to the way of it.’ ‘That thus he chooses some, and rejects others, is for that great end—to manifest and magnify his mercy and justice. But why he appointed this man for the one, and that man for the other, made Peter a vessel of this mercy, and Judas of wrath, this is even so, because it seemed good to him. This, if it is harsh, yet is apostolic doctrine. Has not the potter (says Paul) power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor? This deep we must admire, and always, in considering it, close with this: O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!’” ~William S. Plumer

In all things God makes the difference, not us. There is no difference between God's saints and the wicked by nature, "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. The only difference is the difference that God makes by His distinguishing grace. We, as God's elect, have . . .
  nothing to boast of,
nothing to be proud of, and
no reason to look down on others as being inferior to us.
We were born just like everyone else — dead in trespasses and sins. By nature we lived in rebellion against God, just like everyone else. We walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, living to fulfill the lusts of our flesh, and were by nature children of wrath even as others. We have nothing to brag about — but much to be thankful for!
In sovereign grace . . .
  He loved us,
  He chose us,
  He blessed us,
He set His affection on us,
  and He saved us.
In distinguishing mercy our Savior . . .
  was born for us,
  lived for us,
  suffered for us,
  bled for us, and
  reigns for us.
In discriminating love He . . .
  sought us out,
  chased us down,
  subdued our hearts,
  gave us spiritual life, and
blessed us with the gift of everlasting salvation!” ~Frank Hall

The faith of God's elect, which is the Spirit's work, has the Lord Jesus Christ for its object. It is the going forth of the soul laden with sin unto Christ, and embracing Him with adoring rapture. It is the whole inner man closing with Christ—clasping and clinging unto Him. It is the eye which sees Him—the ear which hears Him—the hand which holds Him fast—the feet which follow hard after Him—the appetite which feeds on His broken body—the thirst which drinks of the stream from His side—the heart which loves Him—the head which knows Him—the memory which retains Him—the affections which are entwined around Him—the trust which trusts in Him—the hope which hopes in Him. Indeed, faith is the entire man loving Jesus, looking only unto Him, swallowed up in Him, making Him the All in All. How precious is this gift of faith! Lord! grant "that the life which we live in the flesh, may be by the faith of the Son of God!" Lord, increase our faith! May it ‘grow exceedingly,’ until the work of faith be ended, and we see You face to face. Let each exclaim, O my soul, ‘be you faithful unto death, and He will give you a crown of life.’" ~Henry Law

“When we become children of God by faith in Christ Jesus, we are entitled to nothing less than all the happiness and glory which our Father can bestow. It is written we are ‘heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ.’ Amazing thought! But it is as surely certain as it is wondrous. ‘He who spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?’ Is Christ now rich, and rich in glory? Just so rich, and just so rich in glory will each poor follower of Him soon become. ‘The glory which You gave Me, I have given them.’ God cannot give more; God will not give less.” ~Henry Law

“None of God’s elect die before they are converted!” ~Ralph Venning

1 Peter 2:9

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”

Colossians 3:12

“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”
