Romans 13:12
“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”
We have passed
through the night, the night when we were wallowing in the filth and darkness
of sin. We were afraid of the light for it will blind us. We were living in the
dark, consumed with the gratification of self, and that was light to us, a
false light because it was a light that was dark.
But the dawn has
come; the day of grace has come. We are able to see now, the light that was the true light. Let us remove our nightclothes and put on a new garment of righteousness. This new garment will be our armour against the assaults of wickedness. The light of the Lord Jesus Christ has
overcome the darkness that was once in us. We are now called the children of light for we
walk in the light of Jesus.
“The invitation
which is yours today, may be withdrawn tomorrow. The axe may be even now laid
at the root of the tree, and the sentence on the wing– "Cut it down!"
How awful, if it really be, that you are yet living in this state of
estrangement and guilt! What a surrender of present peace! What a forfeiture of
eternal joy! Hurry! flee for your life, lest you be consumed! Your immortality
is no trifle.” ~John MacDuff
That was a time of wondrous love,
When Christ my Lord was passing by;
He felt His tender pity move,
And brought His great salvation near.
Guilty, and self-condemned, I stood,
Nor thought His mercy was so near;
When He my stubborn heart subdued,
And planted all His graces there.
My eyes were sealed, the shades of night
Over all my mental powers were drawn;
He spoke the word, 'Let there be light!
And straight the day began to dawn."
