Of Broken and Unbreakable Relationships

Romans 12:10

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”

There is no such thing as a broken relationship among members of the spiritual family. The elect of God, the redeemed by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, the predestined before the foundation of the world, are co-heirs of the Heavenly Kingdom. Misunderstandings, squabbles, or disagreements may arise, but the cord of brotherly love will never break. Every member of Christ’s church is entwined with one another in a common bond: that of the love of their Lord, Savior, and King.

A broken friendship or relationship between a Christian and an unregenerate is bound to happen, for they are incompatible. A Christian is commanded not to yoke with an unbeliever; he should only minister to him as a messenger of the gospel, that being his primary duty. The love of the unbeliever towards others may be true, but at the same time it can be false. For the believer does not practice treachery in love; otherwise, he is a false Christian. The Christian may be a victim of other people’s wickedness but he is not to be the offender or the transgressor. The true Christian in the end can accept loss and defeat graciously, can take fake friends’ deception objectively, and can forgive transgressions easily. The believer, like the unbeliever, is also a sinner but his sins have been forgiven for by grace through faith, he is saved completely and eternally. He does not sin willfully, prays unceasingly, and repents daily.
